Bi Polar Disorder

I thought I would mention this mental illness since someone was shot in Florida due to not taking his medication and the effects of this illness on the family and friends and loved ones is heart breaking.

My youngest son showed signs of A.D.D and he refused to take medication for this and now I am thinking he might have BP.?

It sickens me to see people living with a mind out of control.Bi Polar info

I find that more and more people are showing this mental illness or maybe it's just a new label for an old mental illness.

Thanks for reading,

love
Eve

  1. I thought “A Beautiful Mind” was about a scizofrenic? I think I could equate a lot of our illnesses with the lack of true nutrition we are giving our bodies, and the habits modern America takes.

  2. HI I corrected the posting.. a friend of mine has an x boyfriend who has BP and she told me that movie was about BP. I looked it up and corrected it thanks for pointing it out.Eve

  3. I think part of it has to do with our diagnosis-happy culture. We label everything a disease, and medicate even the common cold or mild headaches. Sorry folks, but as much as it sucks, the human body is better off fighting the small battles on its own. This isn’t to say that bi-polar is not a real condition that truly exists – I know it is a very real problem for many people. I’m just always sceptical of diagnoses of bi-polar disorder and ADD (the latter especially). By many definitions, I’m borderline ADD or perhaps even autistic – fortunately I grew up before over-diagnosing these things became fashionable, and my parents were not stupid enough to pump me with drugs for every little thing. It is unfortunate the man did not take his medication, and that his death resulted… Unfortunate things happen though.Eve, I don’t know your son, or your doctor(s) but unless he really starts to show serious signs of problems, I’d strongly caution against him medicating his “condition” (if he has one). Many of the greatest minds in history belong to people who, by today’s standards, are autistic, ADD/ADHD, or bi-polar. Who knows the cost of using these drugs without serious thought? Your son’s unique mind could discover the cure for cancer, or bring about other great things – but perhaps the power of that mind may be diminished by inappropriate medication. There’s two sides to the coin when it comes to these issues – it’s not just about destructive behavior, because an abnormal mind can also produce very positive and great things. After all – Einstein wouldn’t have been so great if he had been “normal” like everyone else, would he?Just food for thought. 🙂

  4. HI T,I thought he had ADD since he was depressed and failed 8 grade 3 times and finally I had to sign him out of school.Out of my 5 children he is the only one that has this problem and he was self distructive just like my husband is now.Talking of suicide and low self worth, my son had counseling and it did help however, when he moved out of my house at 16 I lost all control or help methods for him. He is now almost 24 in Jan. My husband is losing his mind now I understand all the cruelity and abuse he was putting on me and I told him I forgave him however, he still speaks of death, all I can do is pray.Meds do help it’s been proven however, when people are depressed they don’t or won’t seek help until intervention is in place.thank you for reading and sharing :)Sir Lance.Hugs to youEve

  5. HI T,I know what you mean and alot of our problems can be solved with healthier living which includes exersice.. I eat low fat foods and walk 3 miles a day in any weather maybe this is why I am so physically fit too :)there is an old saying, : you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink” I have explained to many the benefits of good nutrition however, it’s up to them to eat .now where did I put that shovel?Eve

  6. I’m all in favor of the powers of medical science – I just think that, like so many things in American culture, people tend to rely too heavily and too willingly on medical solutions that aren’t necessary. Our “quick fix” mentality sickens me, because it is so short-sighted and can cause so much damage. Medication, like all worthwhile things, must be done with thought and consideration … Two traits that your average American is not well known for. 🙂

  7. HI M,He was 16 at the time now he will be 24 soon.. In New York state a child of 16 can make his own decissions believe it or not.He would have been better if he took the meds for ADD which is what we thought he had.. My youngest grandson is on meds for ADD now and he is doing much better 🙂

  8. there is an old saying, : you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink” I have explained to many the benefits of good nutrition however, it’s up to them to eatBuild a fire for a man and he’ll be warm for a day. Set the man on fire and he’ll be warm for the rest of his life.

  9. yes I have set the fire but still it’s up to him to seek the help, my words can only be the fire his actions can only be the result.

  10. EVE, I have been dig… ADHD. I have a friend who is the Profesor of Phsc @ UCC & she talked 2 me 4 awhile about pros and cons of meds. She said that I am very good at what I do because of it and meds would take my drive persay. However If I WHERE medicated as a child, I believe I would have axceled in school. DAL
