A Letter from Syria

 

My beloved Fatimah,

 

Your  sweet heartwarming feelings are like perfumed flowers for me.We may choose our words 

and polish it up with art,But the word that sways and stays is the word that comes from the heart.

 

There are friendships made for the sake of meeting each other’s needs.There are also friendships 

made only for the sake of pleasurable times.True friendship consists of people who desire only 

the good of the other.It does not live upon our changing wants and passions. Rather, it endures

 even difficult times and lives long after our initial attractions have passed.

Thank you my dear Fatimah for  your thoughtfulness and genuine care.

 

of constant shelling, and frequent mortar attacks and car bombs .When The violence is so 

overwhelming,it’s easy to lose sight of what it means for individuals.

 

If we are to end our wars in the world where I belong , we have to dispense with a threatening, 

vengeful and sectarian ideology and  culture and we have to stop mixing religion with politics.

Something that is most likely not  to happen .When religion and politics travel in the same cart, 

the riders believe nothing can stand in their way. Their movements become headlong faster

 faster and faster. They put aside all thoughts of obstacles and forget the precipice does

 not show itself to the man in a blind rush until it’s too late.

 

The rulers  especially in this part of the world  always using religious elites and institutions 

 in despicable way to manipulate  and control the crowd , and to justify the unjustifiable if it is 

 

I think ,the main object of genuine spirituality that can serve humanity  is before  to get a man 

into heaven,is to get heaven & heavenly virtues  into him,in his heart and conscience.

We make our own Heaven and hell Right Here on Earth.

As the notable poet  Omar Khayyám once said”Beyond the earth,beyond the farthest skies

 I try to find Heaven and Hell.Then I hear a solemn voice that says:Heaven and hell are inside”.

 

 

As you know ,war makes often men barbarous because, to take part in it, one must harden oneself

 against  all appreciation of delicacy and sensitive values.At the same time a man discovers what he

 is actually worth in this world when he is stripped of all but his native potentialities. He soon finds 

that nothing has more weight than his human qualities.

 

 

Even amid the  violence and winter’s chill we can embrace warming thoughts.Few weeks ago a major

 snowstorm has hit my country and the entire Middle East,though it has brought misery  to refugees 

but also brought fighting  to a near standstill.

 

 In fact, the only noise that could be heard was the snow falling and resting on the ground. 

The cold temperatures created dry flakes that shimmered in the moonlight as they descended

 from the heavens. 

 

These peaceful nights, lit by the glow of the moon, relaxed my soul and made me feel connected

 to a larger world.For this brief moment, everything in the world rearranged itself into an order 

that made sense. I enjoyed this calm immensely.
